Next-Generation Performance: Oracle Exadata X11M

News

2025-02-14

Oracle introduced the latest generation of the Oracle Exadata platform, Exadata X11M, which delivers extraordinary performance, increased efficiency, and energy savings for workloads.

Next-generation intelligent data architecture delivers up to 55% faster AI Vector searches, 2.2X faster analytics scan throughput, and 25% faster transaction processing. Exadata X11M is priced the same as the previous generation, while delivering significant improvements across AI, analytics, and online transaction processing (OLTP). The combination of intelligent power management with the ability to run mission-critical workloads faster and on fewer systems helps customers achieve maximum energy efficiency and sustainability goals. Additionally, these same capabilities are available across public cloud, multicloud, and on-premises environments, giving customers the flexibility to deploy and run Oracle Database workloads anywhere, without any application changes.

Exadata X11M is optimized for the latest generation AMD EPYC processors and delivers an order of magnitude higher performance than competing systems for database workloads. Performance has increased across all workloads, with significantly faster vector searches for AI, higher IOPS and shorter latencies for transaction processing, and much faster data scan and query throughput for analytics. With the ability to scan data in both flash and Exadata RDMA memory (XRMEM), Exadata X11M can achieve exceptional throughput. Available at the same price as the previous-generation Exadata X10M, customers can reduce costs while doing more work on the same size platform.

Exadata X11M performance improvements compared to previous platform include:

  • • Up to 55% faster persistent vector index (IVF) searches with transparent offloading to intelligent Exadata storage. Additionally, in-memory vector index queries (HNSW) are up to 43% faster. Software optimizations available across all Exadata platforms deliver even faster searches with up to 4.7x data filtering on storage servers and 32x faster query performance for binary vector searches. This enables customers to run complex vector searches faster and improve the accuracy and reliability of generative AI models while reducing overall costs.
  • • Up to 25% faster serial transaction processing, up to 25% higher concurrent transaction throughput, and up to 21% lower SQL 8K I/O read latency — now as low as 14us. This enables more transactions to be completed using fewer database resources.
  • • Up to 25% faster analytics query processing, up to 2.2x faster analytical I/O on storage servers, and up to 500 GB/s faster in-memory database scan speeds. When combined with other Exadata innovations, this enables to run real-time analytics on transactional data and more rapidly scan terabyte to petabyte data warehouses to gain critical business insights.

The new platform also helps significantly reduce power consumption and costs in four distinct ways. First, the high performance of Exadata X11M allows customers to run their database workloads on fewer systems, saving on infrastructure, power and cooling, and data center space. Second, Exadata X11M improves utilization by allowing more workloads to be consolidated onto smaller systems. Third, intelligent power management is built directly into Exadata X11M, helping customers address energy efficiency and sustainability concerns by turning off unneeded CPU cores, limiting power consumption, and optimizing power use during off-peak hours. Finally, customers can take advantage of built-in automation with Oracle Autonomous Database, which helps eliminate manual database management tasks and human error.

Exadata X11M can be deployed on-premises or with Exadata Database Service and Autonomous Database in Exadata Cloud@Customer, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and multicloud environments. Customers have access to the same Oracle database and capabilities running on the same Exadata architecture across all of these environments. Oracle Database is consistent across deployments, allowing customers to run workloads where they need them without any application changes.

In multicloud deployments, Oracle Database will run on Exadata X11M in OCI, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure data centers. With this option, customers have access to the full capabilities of Oracle Database, including Oracle Real Application Clusters, which provides scalability and high availability during planned and unplanned downtime. In addition, customers can combine their applications, AI models, or analytics tools in AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure with their data in Oracle databases, supported by a low-latency network connection.
