Juniper Networks has introduced new routing platforms as part of its PTX series, designed to transform high-performance networks in the age of artificial intelligence.
The Packet Transport Router (PTX) series is designed to meet the needs of large wide-area networks and data centers. The PTX series is based on the Express 5 processor, which was first announced back in 2022 and is gradually being introduced into the company's equipment. Express 5, and LC1301 modular line cards. It allows the PTX10000 chassis to support up to 72 400 GE ports or 36 800 GE ports in a 14 RU form factor.
A key element of the new PTX routers is integration with Juniper's Converged Optical Routing Architecture (CORA). CORA is an implementation of IP over DWDM (IPoDWDM) that is a critical approach to modern routing. IPoDWDM is a telecommunications technology that integrates IP routers and network switches directly with the optical transport network (OTN) using dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). DWDM is a fiber optic transmission technology that increases bandwidth by sending different streams of data over different wavelengths of light.
CORA is further enhanced by the optimized layered control capabilities of Juniper's Paragon Automation technology, making CORA a scalable IPoDWDM architecture tailored for the most demanding applications. Paragon Automation translates business intent into desired levels of performance throughout the lifecycle of networks and network services, eliminating manual processes and thereby reducing IT workload.
From a security perspective, it's worth noting that in addition to built-in line-speed MACsec encryption on every port without sacrificing performance, each PTX router has a unique device ID and uses Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 to verify hardware and OS integrity at boot automatically. It is also possible to implement the Corero SmartWal Threat Defense Director (TDD) security service, which provides distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection.
