Cisco Announces New Cisco UCS X-Series Modular Servers and Cisco UCS C-Series Rack Servers Based on 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors
With this update, Cisco directly addresses two significant issues that virtually every IT organization faces today.
The first issue is that enterprise workloads are becoming more dynamic and require large-scale IT infrastructure upgrades. In addition, Cisco research found that more than half of the surveyed customers move workloads between on-premises and off-premises environments weekly. This requires solutions that can transform infrastructure and operations to securely support the demands of workloads such as artificial intelligence (such as machine learning), data analytics (such as big data), data warehousing (such as SDS), and efficient computing (such as VDI).
The second issue is that IT organizations increasingly need to be more resilient through energy-efficient infrastructure and advanced monitoring and management systems. In fact, Gartner has listed sustainability as one of its top strategic technology trends for 2023, noting that companies should "invest more in innovative solutions that are designed to address ESG demand to meet sustainability goals."
The new class of next-generation UCS servers and simplifying all IT operations with the Cisco Intersight solution will help customers address both issues. Cisco is delivering more features across the UCS portfolio: 1RU/2RU 2-socket rack servers, 2-socket and 4-socket X-series modular compute nodes based on new 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors and new advanced technologies like DDR5, PCIe 5.0, Compute Express Link 1.1 (CXL) and now Intel Data Center GPU Flex Series.
This combination of density, performance, modularity and simplified manageability will provide a number of undeniable operational and sustainability benefits, such as:
• The ability to "do more with less" by reducing the number of systems at a consolidation ratio of up to 4-to-1 compared to previous generation UCS servers while supporting all new types of workloads;
• Ability to reduce components, devices, and cabling through the new UCS X-Series Fabric architecture that can deliver up to 64 percent better performance and 31% lower power usage to previous models for greater efficiency and sustainability;
• Ability to achieve sustainability from policies & management at scale through Cisco Intersight that provides customers with global control of sustainability policies as well as fine-tuned visibility and control of other operations.
According to the latest data from analyst publisher IDC, it's worth noting that high consumer demand for the UCS X series servers is the key factor behind Cisco's 52.8% share of the global x86 blade server market.
